The Beauty on the Other Side of Surrender

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…
— Ephesians 3:20

When God asks us to surrender something, our first thought is often about what we’ll lose. The job. The relationship. The control. The comfort. But rarely do we stop to imagine what we might gain on the other side.

Over and over again in Scripture, surrender isn’t the end of the story—it’s the beginning of something beautiful. Abraham let go of his homeland and became the father of nations. Mary surrendered her plans and became the mother of the Savior. The disciples dropped their nets and found purpose that would change eternity.

Surrender is scary because it comes with unknowns. We like guarantees, and God often asks us to step forward with nothing but His word. That’s where faith comes in—it’s not believing that we’ll get the outcome we want, but trusting that He is good no matter the outcome.

From A Pace of Grace, I share that some of my most meaningful seasons began on the other side of a trembling yes. Not because I knew how things would turn out, but because I believed that God’s way was worth following—no matter the cost.

A Personal Story:
When I stepped into writing A Pace of Grace, it wasn’t with a confident “I’ve got this.” It was with shaking hands and a heart full of doubt. I didn’t know if I had the time, the words, or the courage to be that vulnerable. But I knew God had asked me to share the story.

That yes has led to open doors I never imagined—deep conversations with women who feel seen, moments where God has confirmed His calling, and a peace in my own spirit that obedience brings. The beauty isn’t just the book—it’s the intimacy with God that has grown in the process.

What We Find When We Let Go:
When we release our grip, we create space for God to move. Sometimes He gives us what we hoped for. Sometimes He gives us something entirely different—but always better.

On the other side of surrender, we often find:

  • Peace that’s not tied to circumstances.

  • Joy that surprises us in ordinary moments.

  • Clarity about our purpose and calling.

  • Freedom from the pressure to control every outcome.
